When Idea Foundry opened its doors back in 2002, the Forbes Avenue office was chosen for its strategic position between the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. At that time, Idea Foundry's primary services were supporting the students, faculty, and researchers from the universities to spin-out and commercialize intellectual property. Over the last two decades, Idea Foundry's programming and service offering has adapted to meet the changing needs in Pittsburgh's innovation ecosystem. With increasing international work, collaboration with the GlobalPittsburgh team to meet with international delegations, and a shift towards later stage investment through IF Ventures, our needs for our physical space have changed. 

The COhatch space, which just opened in March 2023, brings considerable advantages for our current needs. For our Oakland friends and partners, we're not far away and easily accessible by public transportation to both the Universities and other parts of the city. There is also plenty of free parking at the Waterfront (satisfying a frequent complaint by visitors to Idea Foundry when we were in Oakland!). The flexible working environment means that there are open spaces for meetings and informal catch-up chats over coffee, conference rooms, spaces to hold larger events, and even some arcade games (which now seem like an essential part of the office). The Waterfront itself is vibrant and filled with restaurants for work lunches. 

We have found the collaborative environment of the space comfortable and welcoming and hope that all of our friends and visitors will as well. While cleaning out our old office brought back nostalgia for all the milestones and memories held in those walls, we're very excited for this new chapter and location.
