Innovation Bridge Program – Pittsburgh & Chile

Innovation is taking place in every corner of the globe, generating impact and solving challenges which are faced the world over. Leveraging international collaboration to develop and implement innovation widens perspectives and potential, reveals new methods and solutions, and maximizes impact and strengths of all involved.

Program Overview-

The Innovation Bridge Program between Chile and Pittsburgh is a competitive program open to young Chilean innovators and professionals. It includes a 2 week trip to Pittsburgh, USA in April 2019 to meet counterparts in the U.S. and work with the Idea Foundry team to identify and create collaborative partnerships, projects, business ventures and transactions.

Important Dates:

Application Period: 1 November 2018 – 15 December 2018
Stage 2 Interviews: Week of 7 January 2019
Program Dates: 6 – 19 April 2019
The objective of this program is to catalyze innovation adoption and transfer with a focus on  the sectors of environment and sustainability, food and agriculture, and mining safety. This program focuses on directly developing innovator-innovator, innovator-business, and business-business partnerships between Chile and Pittsburgh.
This program is developed in part through the support and contributions of the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, Chile.

What are we looking for?

  • Young Chilean innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs or professionals between the ages of 21-35 at the start of the program in April 2019
  • Projects, innovation, or companies focused in the industries of Environment and Sustainability, Food and Agriculture, and Mining
  • Demonstration of concrete goals to expand partnerships and opportunities for collaboration in Pittsburgh that are feasible within the scope of the program will generate impact in Chile, Pittsburgh, or both
  • Professional level proficiency in English

Included in the Program:


International flights from Santiago, Chile to Pittsburgh International Airport for the 2 week trip to Pittsburgh

IMPORTANT: It is the responsibility of the participants to obtain a valid passport and the necessary visa to travel to the U.S. 


Included in the program is the option of participating in a Homestay with a family in Pittsburgh, which offers a unique opportunity for immersion in the U.S. culture. Idea Foundry works with our trusted partner, GlobalPittsburgh, to arrange the homestays.
Participants should be prepared to pay for daily incidental costs, such as transportation and meals.

Meetings, Site Visits, and Networking Opporutnities

Idea Foundry will work with each participant to identify Pittsburgh-based counterparts and potential partners following the participants goals for one-on-one meetings, small group meetings, and site visits. Idea Foundry staff will be on hand to assist with the facilitation of meetings as needed.

Workshops and One-on-One Guidance from the Idea Foundry Team

Idea Foundry staff will conduct group working sessions with participants to understand the innovation landscape in Pittsburgh, commercialization of innovation, technology transfer pathways, and other topics to be determined based on the interests of the group. The team will also work individually with participants to help them accomplish their goals for the program and explore opportunities for continued development through Idea Foundry’s services.

Throughout the program, the Idea Foundry office will act as home base for the participants, where they can collaborate on projects or individually to handle daily work.

Cultural Immersion

Between its steel city history and blooming innovation ecosystem today, Pittsburgh offers a glimpse of real American culture as well as a unique culture all of its own. Participants will have time to explore the city on their own as well as through some planned activities with the group.
